Newsletter: Winter 2008/2009
Winter is here and that means COOL weather for you and your pets. Remember to keep your pets safe from the elements and have fresh water available at all times.
HOLIDAY HAZARDS
- Poinsettias, mistletoe, holly berries and chocolate are toxic to pets.
- Needles from sewing projects and stringing popcorn can be swallowed and must be surgically removed.
- String and tinsel can damage your pet's intestines.
- Turkey bones can get caught in your pet's mouth or throat and can splinter and injure the intestines.
- Table scraps and some spices can cause diarrhea and/or vomiting.
- Make sure Christmas tree preservatives are safe for pets. Aspirin, often used in the water as a preservative, is extremely toxic to cats.
- Put breakable ornaments toward the top of the tree. Broken pieces can cut your pet's tongue or be ingested.
FLEAS, TICKS, & HEARTWORMS
Remember: It is important to continue your pets' Frontline Plus & Interceptor year round for protection against fleas, ticks, and heartworms! If you need a refill, please feel free to contact us.
MICROCHIPS
Studies show that 1 in 3 pets will be lost. Without identification, 90% of those lost will not return home. Help protect your pet by having him microchipped! WFVH offers microchipping for all of our patients. We use the Home Again microchip. Please visit Home Again or contact us to schedule an appointment to have your pet microchipped.
